Ongoing Community Initiatives

Over the years, CGB North Bay has worked on several projects.  Some of these projects include Community Wide Clean-ups, Weeds Begone, Tree plantings and many more!

  • West Ferris Secondary School and St. Joseph-Scollard Hall (SJSH) completed Beautification Projects in 2022. West Ferris planted one oak and four apple trees, SJSH remediated their outdoor garden space and completed a successful litter pick up at the Waterfront.

  • Both schools are looking to continue these projects and let the beauty grow within their spaces!

  • Collaborative projects and partnerships: Several tree planting initiatives.

  • Canadore College planted three orchards, two on campus, one at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

  • Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) planted one orchard in the spring of 2022.

  • CGB will continue with the community orchard projects in the spring of 2023.

  • This year’s plantings were in collaboration with Canadore College, NUSU, Cogeco, Trees 4 Nipissing, North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, and Eagle Tree Service.

  • North Bay Hydro donated 11 trees to help increase the tree canopy and beautify school grounds. Six trees were planted at Alliance and five at Silver Birches.  We will continue to work with local schools to green their play areas!

Litter pickups and neighbourhood challenges

  • CGB hosts two successful Community-wide Cleanups (CWC) annually. Thanks to our volunteers over 23,000 thousand bags of garbage collected since 2019. Next CWC to happen in April 2023.

  • Four schools accepted litter pick up kits (Scollard, Chippewa, West Ferris and Odyssee).

  • 21 Cleanup Crews equipped with litter tool kits who pickup weekly

  • Over 15 organizations and businesses have participated in litter pickups: Canadore College, RBC, North Bay Hydro, Women10 Living Fit, Calendar Fire Station, Rotary Club North Bay, OUTLoud North Bay and many more.

  • A successful Social Media Photo Contest - “What’s Green & Beautiful in your yard or neighbourhood?" Takes place in June/July.

  • We were invited by Vision 2025 to muster our volunteers for an urban weeding blitz. Close to 100 volunteers weeded 13 plus planter beds along Algonquin and Cassells St. This event was such a success, CGB co-hosted a second event!

  • We hope to continue with this collaboration in 2023.

public art

  • A mural designed and painted by Carissa MacIntosh to reflect inclusion, diversity, and all things for a healthy strong community was installed at the YMCA.

  • A sculpture has been purchased representing the railway culture and history of North Bay. The Canadian artist is Claude Millette, and the contemporary sculpture, is to be installed at the Waterfront Spring 2023.
